Raxco Software Releases Revolutionary PerfectDisk 10 Virtual Enterprise Edition With Patent-Pending Virtual Awareness Technology

Posted by admin | Virtual Servers | Sunday 16 January 2011 12:14 am

PerfectDisk 10

Gaithersburg, MD (Vocus) February 24, 2009

Raxco Software, the leader in disk and virtualization defragmentation software, today announced the release of the PerfectDisk® 10 Virtual Enterprise Edition for virtual environments using VMware ESX Server and Microsoft’s Hyper-V or other Windows®-based physical hosts. The PerfectDisk 10 Virtual Enterprise Edition is the world’s only disk defrag utility with Virtual Awareness to ensure optimal performance in virtual environments. Licensing also includes the PerfectDisk 10 Enterprise Console, providing enterprises with a fully integrated management system for their virtual environments.

The Virtual Enterprise Edition utilizes new patent-pending technology that is virtually aware of its environment. Other disk defragmenters available in the market today are unable to distinguish that they are in a virtual environment, resulting in scenarios where a virtual guest will consume resources from the host that are critical to another guest’s potentially critical activity. This resource contention can easily lead to a severe degradation in performance for the critical guest. With the PerfectDisk 10 Virtual Enterprise Edition, PerfectDisk is able to determine when it is in a virtual environment and adjust defragmentation accordingly to eliminate performance-debilitating resource contention.

“The PerfectDisk 10 Virtual Enterprise Edition’s virtual-awareness capability is a great advancement and makes defragmentation truly valuable and a no-brainer in virtual environments,” said Russ Howard, Systems/Programmer III at the University of Pittsburgh. “Raxco Software has improved an already top-notch product.”

“As organizations continue to implement more virtualization solutions to keep costs and energy use down, the PerfectDisk 10 Virtual Enterprise Edition is a critical piece of the virtualization puzzle,” said Bob Nolan, president and CEO of Raxco Software. “With this component of the PerfectDisk 10 line, enterprises can be assured that they are maximizing performance in these environments without wasting valuable resources.”

The PerfectDisk 10 Virtual Enterprise Edition is available immediately at www.perfectdisk.com.

OpenVZ Project Releases Templates To Create Debian Virtual Private Servers

Posted by admin | Virtual Servers | Friday 7 January 2011 12:21 pm

HERNDON, VA (PRWEB) January 11, 2006

The OpenVZ project (www.openvz.org) today released pre-built Debian 3.1 (Sarge) Virtual Private Server (VPS) templates, enabling real-time provisioning of servers and giving Debian users full use of Debian applications in the open source operating system virtualization project.

OpenVZ is an operating system level server virtualization software technology, built on Linux, that creates isolated, secure virtual private servers on a single physical server – enabling greater server utilization and superior availability with fewer performance penalties. The virtual servers perform and execute like independent servers with their own memory, configuration files, users and applications. Each can be re-booted independently.

The Debian templates allow for almost instant (in many cases about a minute) provisioning of a Debian VPS – giving customers with applications running on Debian the ability to run those applications on a virtual server, rather than a full server.

The pre-built Debian 3.1 (Sarge) templates for i386 (x86) and x86_64 (AMD64, EM64T) architectures are available for download at http://openvz.org/download/template/precreated/.

“There are many companies out there running applications on Debian,” said Kir Kolyshkin, manager of the OpenVZ project. “This will help free up server space by giving them dedicated virtual servers, rather than dedicated hardware. We welcome the open source community feedback and invite participation in our software development efforts.”

With the power of modern CPUs from both Intel and AMD (including the latest dual-core offerings), hardware is often under utilized. With virtualization technology, the server can effectively be split into many small ones, each running its tasks so that the whole server is utilized more efficiently.

About the OpenVZ Project

OpenVZ software serves the needs of the community developers, testers, documentation experts, and other technology enthusiasts who wish to participate in and accelerate the technology development process. OpenVZ, supported by SWsoft, is a subset of the Virtuozzo virtualization software product.

New Datacenter Automation Suite from SWsoft Speeds Virtual Resource Deployment

Posted by admin | Virtual Servers | Thursday 30 December 2010 12:15 am

HERNDON, VA (PRWEB) April 5, 2006

Provisioning and managing virtual datacenters is now easily automated with the release of the SWsoft Datacenter Automation Suite. This comprehensive web-based solution also helps IT managers expediently handle department user requests for server space to accommodate new applications and users on virtual servers.

The Datacenter Automation Suite software addresses requirements for IT infrastructures that adapt quickly to user needs. It helps automate the process of assigning IT resources and also provides the capability to assess costs according to usage. This is important because it is common for data center budgets to be allocated within an enterprise based on usage.

“This latest addition to our set of virtualization management tools and templates is the cornerstone to a truly adaptive infrastructure,” said Serguei Beloussov, CEO, SWsoft. “Automation will become an increasing piece of the core differentiation between virtualization technologies. SWsoft, with Virtuozzo and now the Datacenter Automation Suite, offers the most advanced tools for automating, monitoring and managing virtual environments.”

Create Servers to Meet Workload Demand – On the Fly

The new Datacenter Automation Suite enables departments to order services from a secure web-based console and have them instantly provisioned from a shared pool of available resources — simplifying and automating the datacenter workflow. After delivery, administrators use a web-based portal that allows departments and end users to configure and maintain these services. All resources and applications can be tracked to individual departments and users, so costs can be assigned to the appropriate business unit. The Datacenter Automation Suite can be easily extended through a flexible API.

The new automation suite is used with SWsoft’s leading operating system virtualization product, Virtuozzo, which gives IT administrators the flexibility to dynamically create virtual environments. It reduces the need to add physical servers and improves utilization of existing servers.

Virtuozzo software allows a single Windows or Linux physical server to be provisioned into multiple, isolated and secure virtual environments. The virtual environments perform and execute as independent servers with their own memory, I/O, configuration files, users and applications.

Availability

The Datacenter Automation Suite is now available worldwide. More information is available at www.virtuozzo.com/products/das.

5nine Software Announces Security Heartbeat Service and Virtual Firewall 2.0 for Microsoft Hyper-V and Server 2008

Posted by admin | Virtual Servers | Tuesday 21 December 2010 12:18 pm

Holmdel, NJ (PRWEB) April 1, 2010

5nine Software today announced 5nine Virtual Firewall 2.0 for Microsoft Hyper-V — a powerful and easy to use virtual firewall for Microsoft Hyper-V and Server 2008 / R2. 5nine Virtual Firewall controls network traffic between virtual machines, detects/blocks malicious attacks and improves the security of a virtualized environment.

Both SMB and large size Enterprise deployments or hosting companies need v-Firewall to harden security of the virtual machines and the Virtual host system.

5nine Virtual Firewall provides an ability to monitor and control network traffic between virtual machines and external (physical) networks, as well as between virtual machines within the virtual network. System Administrators can define the rules for different types of traffic coming to/from virtual machines, as well as the ports used. This could be done both programmatically (with simple PowerShell API), or using administrative applications running on a management Virtual machine or a standalone web server.

Special security heartbeat service continuously checks if the security rules/policies are enforced, and stops/pauses the virtual machine if its network filter is not communicated, which prevents exposure of the VMs to a wide range of exploits.

By controlling incoming and outgoing network traffic for each Hyper-V virtual machine 5nine Virtual Firewall helps to improve the security of a virtual environment, and enforces various compliance best practices and standards, including PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard).

5nine Virtual Firewall can be used with Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager when virtual machine is provisioned, or deployed on the physical machine(s) prior to P2V Migration.

Virtual Firewall also keeps statistics for a number of packets and average size of each packet. Based on these statistics Virtual Firewall creates a network usage pattern, and notifies the user if it has changed, which often indicates a malicious attack or a Malware. System Administrators subsequently can take an action to block suspicious traffic creating or modifying appropriate rule.

“More and more companies, including those of highly regulated financial, insurance and healthcare industries, are looking to utilize Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technology to reduce costs and optimize IT resources. Security and compliance are increasing concerns for a broad range of virtualization deployments. 5nine Virtual Firewall provides tremendous protection for the virtual infrastructure, along with conventional perimeter firewalls,” said Irene Achong, Director of Sales of 5nine Software. “5nine v-Firewall version 1.0 has drawn significant attention from many organizations of different size, including SMBs, hosting companies and Enterprises utilizing Microsoft Hyper-V and Server 2008 / R2. It allowed us to gather common requirements for secure Hyper-V Virtual Machines provisioning and deployment, which were implemented in version 2.0 of 5nine Virtual Firewall and 5nine Security Heartbeat Service for Hyper-V.”

Features and Benefits:

Controls Network Traffic — Using simple PowerShell API/scripts or intuitive Management applications system administrators can define/modify various firewall rules to allow or restrict various types of network traffic coming from the external network to Hyper-V virtual machines, or vise versa, and between the virtual machines. It allows users to protect the Virtual Machines and the Host System from both ‘outside’ and ‘inside’ vulnerabilities.

Security Heartbeat Service — Special service continuously checks if the network traffic rules are enforced, and can stop or pause the virtual machine if its network filter is not communicated to ensure that VM is not compromised.

Deployment options — 5nine Virtual Firewall can be used with Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager templates when a new virtual machine is provisioned on Hyper-V / Server 2008/R2 host, or to be deployed on the physical machine(s) prior to P2V Migration, as well as on VMs after Migration.

Compliance Audits — Enables successful compliance audits by providing the ability to monitor, report on, and filter virtual network traffic effectively.

Pricing and Availability

5nine Virtual Firewall 2.0 is currently in beta, and is expected to be GA in April, 2010. A free 30 day trial version can be downloaded at http://www.5nine.com/ . It is priced at 49.00 per virtual machine. Volume discounts apply.

About 5nine Software

5nine Software helps organizations to safeguard their investment in virtual infrastructure by providing innovative systems management solutions designed to reduce costs, increase productivity and mitigate risks. 5nine offers a suite of P2V and V2V tools such as 5nine P2V Hyper-V Planner, 5nine Migrator, 5nine Optimizer and 5nine P2V Hyper-V Planner Free Edition.

5nine is an international company with its U.S. headquarters in New Jersey. 5nine is rapidly expanding its presence and its partner network around the world, and will continue to offer innovative and practical solutions to help IT professionals to better plan and manage their virtual infrastructures.
