Which blog service lets me manage and host my own online community?

Question by Kimochi Tim: Which blog service lets me manage and host my own online community?
I am trying to find a blog service that will allow me to have admin rights to everything, where I can host and manage all blogs on my site. I guess it would be like my own blogger, or wordpress

The very popular blog service LiveJournal is free and open source software. This means that if you had a server ($ 60 to $ 100 USD a month depending on where you go) you could install, run and manage your own instance of LiveJournal on your own server.

On another note, you can easily use MT (MovableType) to manage multiple blogs. Its been around for ages and there is a huge community that contributes.

what do i use to manage a product catalog on a website?

Question by Kevin Widjaja: what do i use to manage a product catalog on a website?
I want to create a website that features a product catalog. This catalog should be database-driven and managed by a system that is simple enough for my mom and pop to be able to add, edit, and delete catalog entries. What free software can I use to do this? Let’s assume that I have my own web hosting already. Thank you!

The best free system is oscommerce. It is kept up to date and easy to use. You can set it up for download products or for items that require shipping, and it even works with various currencies.

You can demo it, and get a complete working version as a free download here http://www.oscommerce.com/

Question by Scott P: Witch content mangement system is the easiest to manage, install, and upkeep that works on Yahoo web hosting?
I was looking at joomla, and drupal but I have never messed with these systems before and am looking for the easiest to use, manage and install

Well does Yahoo web hosting have Cpanel/Fantastico? That’s what http://www.hostamina.com has, and with that you can just do a few clicks and presto, have pretty much any content management system installed, plus they’ll help you set it up if you still need any help. In fact, they’ll help you with anything!! But yea, Joomla is pretty good, so is PHPNuke – can’t say that I know which is easier to install on yahoo web hosting, I prefer places that offer more personalized help/support.

How do sites that host illegal downloads manage to stay in business?

Posted by admin | Best Hosting | Monday 6 September 2010 2:20 am

Question by Special nobody: How do sites that host illegal downloads manage to stay in business?
We all already know the deal, thus this is not a question about legality or ethics. I would just like to know, how do sites that brazenly offer copyrighted material and/or the torrents to said material stay in business?

Best answer:

Answer by inconclusive_conjunction
Several ways.

1. Many of the sites are hosted in a country where the copyright laws are not as stringent, such as Sweden.

2. Many do not offer the files themselves, but instead what are called “torrents.” These are very small pieces of information, and contain none of the copyrighted material.

3. Some of them maintain several servers, and move around quite often. They are often not on the same domain for more than three months.

It’s almost as if Yahoo doesn’t want me to be able to use what I paid them for in the first place. Also, I set it to check my password ONCE a day. It checks every 8 screeens or every 15 minutes, whichevr comes first.
