well first off a big consideration would be the amount of hdd space you need. do you have a lot of users? are there users going to be storing lots of data? the more users and the bigger the data the more space youll need. also with that do you want protection or speed?

you also need to determain the amount of memory you need. are a lot of people going to be accessing the servers quickly and constantly? then your going to need a lot of RAM to speed it along.

on top of that your also going to want to look at a proc. quadcores can handle a lot of data coming and going to help the network run smoothly.

Questions about reseller web hosting?

Posted by admin | Best Hosting | Wednesday 27 October 2010 12:21 am

Question by Anonymous: Questions about reseller web hosting?
I’m thinking of doing reseller web hosting, perhaps with HostGator. I understand that I pay a monthly fee for my account, and keep 100% of the profits made.

So, does this mean I don’t need any fancy equipment? Can I easily manage customer accounts and create domain names?

Also, what should I do for customer support? I can do it via e-mail, but I won’t be available 24/7.

Hello There!

A reseller hosting account is just that; space on a web server to create accounts. You won’t be able to create domains with it, for that you’d need to have a domain reseller account, such as enom.com. You will be able to manage your accounts by your “WHM” or web hosting manager… For support, you can do it by email, if your just starting you can have the emails forward to your phone and have a response time when you see them. I have a reseller account at hostfever.com, and love it. They helped me set up my site the whole way through… They will also get you hooked up with a complete billing system. You can order their reseller plans at http://hostfever.com/reseller.html and use coupon code: 20OFF09 to get 20% off your first order. Hoped this helped. (BTW don’t listen to what people say, avoid HostGator at all costs they took my site down because my clients used too much space)… Go with HostFever. :)

Server-park for “managing” my own web-hosting service?

Posted by admin | Best Hosting | Saturday 23 October 2010 2:18 am

Question by koppe74: Server-park for “managing” my own web-hosting service?
Wanting to give something back, I’m toying with the idea of setting-up a small web-hosting service to provide free hosting for a select few… probably by using sub-domains (e.g. site1.mydomain.com, site2.mydomain.com,…) for each.

The obvious choice would be to set-up a web-server and stuff on one of my own computers, but neither my internet-connection nor projected up-time is good enough.

I was therefor wondering if there are any server-parks that allows me to rent (cheaply) a Linux/Unix server for such a purpose, and manages keeping it up?

I would need Apache, PHP and MySQL for sure, and the ability to add packages of PHP scripts freely. I doesn’t matter too much if the server is specifically to be used for web-services, or if it’s set-up more for general purposes… though the latter is preferable. I basically want “my own” Linux machine — to do with as I please — with a killer connection, and someone to keep it up-and-running.

what do i use to manage a product catalog on a website?

Question by Kevin Widjaja: what do i use to manage a product catalog on a website?
I want to create a website that features a product catalog. This catalog should be database-driven and managed by a system that is simple enough for my mom and pop to be able to add, edit, and delete catalog entries. What free software can I use to do this? Let’s assume that I have my own web hosting already. Thank you!

The best free system is oscommerce. It is kept up to date and easy to use. You can set it up for download products or for items that require shipping, and it even works with various currencies.

You can demo it, and get a complete working version as a free download here http://www.oscommerce.com/

I have the exact question few months ago.
Your domain name need to point to the correct nameservers. As the domain is registered with a different company, you will need to have the registrar point the nameservers to ns51.domaincontrol.com, and ns52.domaincontrol.com.
As my domain name has registered at Yahoo, I just log in the user page, and change the nameservers. If somehow you don’t know how to change it, just email them and ask the technician to change it for you.
After the registrar pointed it, godaddy may take up to 48 hrs to make your site activates.

It depends. Keep in mind that they have various adverts in places to lower the costs.
I’m guessing that it takes around ’000 a day to run Facebook and not so much for Craigslist.
